I’ve expressed just how important I thought Rick Peterson was to the Baltimore Orioles 2012 success numerous times here on BSR. We discussed it again on the BSR Podcast this week at around the 43 minute mark.
The Boston Red Sox announced the hiring of Juan Nieves as their new pitching coach this week, which means that Peterson currently remains with the O’s organization as their Director of Pitching Development. Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com talked with Peterson about potentially coming back and his interest in other pitching coach gigs that may become available.
“I love the Orioles,” he said tonight during a phone interview. “I love the energy, the people, everything about it. I love doing what I’m doing with the Orioles. Unless there is something from a big league level that is a great opportunity, I would absolutely come back to the Orioles. It would have to be a special situation for me to go somewhere else even in the big leagues.”
Melewski points out that Peterson’s contracts run through the end of 2012. He currently does not have any details about returning in 2013.
Hopefully that changes soon.
