ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Ravens running back Ricky Williams plans to retire.

Williams came to Baltimore after spending his previous seven seasons with the Miami Dolphins.  He rushed for 444 yards on 108 attempts and found the end zone twice this season.

I was impressed with Williams performance in the AFC Wild Card round against the Houston Texans.  He averaged 4.5 yards per attempt and seemed to outshine the Ravens number one back, Ray Rice.

As Aaron Wilson points out, Williams finishes his career with 10,009 yards and 66 touchdowns.  He also recorded 342 recepts for 2,606 yards and eight touchdowns.

So now the Ravens search for Rice’s backup begins.
