Shaquille Cleare, a 6 foot 9 285 pound center from the Houston area, contacted Maryland yesterday to accept a scholarship to play for the Terps. Cleare was a huge Gary Williams fan because of the way he helped players get to the next level, so he was bummed to say the least when Coach Williams left. However, his number 2 on his list was Turgeon at Texas A&M so it fit pretty well together. Cleare is a beast in the middle as his high school coach, Don Harvey explains:
He’s a great big kid who has great hands. He shoots the ball extremely well and has great post moves. I really do believe he’s going to well at Maryland and in the ACC. He can get up and down the floor. He’s very athletic and has a lot of upside. And he can flat out shoot the ball, which a lot of people don’t know because he scores so easily inside.
He could be the domino the Terps needed to have other recruits fall into place and sign on the dotted line for Maryland for the class of 2012.
