Orioles manager Buck Showalter spoke with Jim Duquette of Power Alley on MLB Network Radio on Thursday to clear the air about Adam LaRoche, the Orioles rotation, fans and the Yankees’ budget.

“It’s our responsibility to make it attractive other than just financial,” Showalter said in response attracting free agents to Baltimore. “…but when someone tells you it’s not about the money. It’s about the money.”

Duquette asked Showalter about the reports on the Adam LaRoche deal. “That reports not right by the way,” he said.  He did however confirm the interest in a first baseman, “It’s no secret that we have interest in Adam & Derrek Lee and some other guys.”

Showalter also said that he has talked to Andy MacPhail about the O’s rotation going into 2011. “Right now we’ve got 6 (potential starters) for 5 (spots), you’d like to have that 8 or 9,” he said. “Andy is very aware of it. We talk about it every day, and it’s a point of emphasis as we move on thru the off season.”

Buck confirmed that he believes in Andy MacPhail’s plan and told the host he doesn’t blame fans for not trusting the Orioles yet. He also said that he “chuckles” when he hears about the Yankees off season “budget.”
