Ed ReedSo, Ed Reed didn’t get suspended. I was wrong. Instead the NFL slapped the Baltimore Ravens‘ safety with a $55,000 fine for his hit on Victor Cruz on Sunday.

To answer the angry mob, yes, I realize that Reed didn’t deliver a helmet-to-helmet shot to Cruz. The league understands that as well. He did however strike “defenseless player in the head and neck area.” Don’t yell it me, those are Jamison Hensley’s words not mine.

Reed was suspended for a similar hit on Emmanuel Sanders last month, but he won his appeal and was instead fined $50K. I figured another illegal shot would certainly cost him a game.

A week of rest could help Reed tremendously. He admitted to playing with am undisclosed injury earlier this season. That one also made the NFL some dough.
