Today is a big day, where (admittedly) very little happens. It marks the end of a waiting period that begins the moment your team’s season ends. In 2014, the countdown began when the Orioles lost Game 4 of the ALCS. It intensified when the San Francisco Giants became the World Series champions. It’s a date every baseball fan marks as the start of baseball season, and throughout the cold winter, the whole world asks “when do pitchers and catchers report?”

No really. The whole world.

Today is the day to celebrate the return of baseball. Sure, it’s just a bunch of grainy cell phone pictures from beat reporters in Florida and Arizona, capturing guys walking around in running shorts – nothing happens on the first day. Pitchers, catchers, and early reporting position players are there to get settled in, fill out forms, and take physicals. But they’re at Spring Training, and workouts will follow. And soon – games.

Real, live baseball will be here before we know it, and it all begins today.

So go on, allow yourself to get a little excited. That is, after all, part of the Magic of Orioles Baseball.
