Mark Turgeon’s replacement at Texas A&M might not be getting much press here in Maryland, but he may after fans hear about the shot he may have taken at Turgeon and Maryland in his Aggie introduction.
Billy Kennedy, the Aggies new head coach, wanted to make it clear to the fans at College Station that he isn’t going anywhere and Maryland happened to be the school he listed first according to Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle.
“You look at my track record, I’ve climbed the ladder a little bit different than a lot of people,” Kennedy said. “This is a dream job for me. I don’t want to go anywhere. There’s no Maryland, Kansas, Carolina, wherever. I’m from Louisiana, family is close, I’ve got a base there. Now I’m from Texas. I plan on retiring here.”
Was it coincidence that Kennedy listed Maryland first? Probably not.
That isn’t a shot, it is actually a compliment. He put Maryland among the elite jobs in the country. Hell, even I wouldn’t go that far. To have Maryland listed among Kansas and North Carolina among the finest programs, the ones that coaches move up to as a final destination? Thanks Bill!
