During the Capitals 4-1 victory over the Blues, Ryan Reaves of the St Louis Blues tried to get something going for his team in the second period by fighting Tom Wilson. That was a pretty poor decision by Reaves.
Analysis: Tom Wilson is the clear winner of this fight with an early take down. Reaves is one of the more respected enforcers in the league, so props to Wilson for having the guts to stand up for his teammate (Reaves hit Backstrom near the head area earlier in the game).
Tom Wilson has already accumulated a pretty impressive resume. Let’s ask legendary rock band Queen what they have to say about this fight.
Evidently you folks in Baltimore have a pretty lame definition of what ‘wins’ a hockey fight. Wilson could’ve stood in there and threw, instead of pansing out with a whirling dervish move.
Nice win for the Caps but lets not lie ourselves, that wasn’t a real NHL fight.
There are obviously better fights, but yeah, Wilson took down Reaves. No idea how that doesn’t constitute “winning” a hockey fight, especially since Reaves didn’t even land any punches.
NHL fights are pointless. The guys are on skates, can’t set their base, yeah a few good punches get thrown from time to time but unless you hit to the head you are not doing any damage.
Go Caps@!
I wouldn’t call them pointless, but I see your point. Fighting is, in a nutshell, hockey’s way of policing itself. Without fighting, there’d be more cheap shots. Far more players get injured due to cheap shots than fights.
