During Sunday night’s Jets/Ravens broadcast Cris Collinsworth marveled at Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith. In what appeared to be another one of Collinsworth’s factually inaccurate tangents, the Sunday Night Football analyst mentioned that Smith had never drank or smoked while attending college at the University of Maryland.
I knew the story that Collinsworth’s broadcast partner, Al Michaels, told in following up; that Smith was the oldest of seven children and helped his single mother raise his siblings while she attended community college, but I hadn’t heard Collinsworth’s story.
Well, Torrey Smith has spoken and Collinsworth was right… this time. Smith told his twitter followers that he’s not lying about never drinking or smoking in college. “It’s not like I didn’t go to parties or anything,” he tweeted. “I just didn’t smoke or drink.” Smith’s teammate at Maryland, Tony Logan, also confirmed on twitter that he kept clean in college.
Smith later tweeted that if the Ravens win the Super Bowl that he plans to drink…water.
