After scoring 16 times against the LA Angels, Baltimore only crossed home once last night and surrendered five in the third inning.

Baseball is such a weird game. The Angels scored less than they did Friday night and weren’t able to score after the third inning, but still left Camden Yards with the victory.

It was Brian Matusz‘s third major league start. He’s had a good one, a bad one, and an okay one now (in that order). Matusz went 5.2 innings giving up 11 hits and four earned runs while striking out seven.

The game was over in the third when Matusz allowed three singles and three walks for five runs. The rookie is now 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA.

Baltimore scored their only run in the bottom half of the third inning when Nick Markakis hit an RBI double off the wall in left center that drove in Adam Jones, who tripled in his second at bat.

Granted, John Lackey was on the mound last night and he was dominant. Seven innings, seven hits, one earned run, and he pitched out of a few jams.

Lackey did however throw his first pitch to Felix Pie at his rib cage.
…Weak.

The Birds are now 2-6 on the year against the Angels and 8-20 since the All Star break.
