The trade winds are blowing and one of the big names that could be moved by the Orioles is Jeremy Guthrie. MLBTradeRumors.com is reporting, via Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports, that the Detroit Tigers are interested in Orioles starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie.
Morosi notes that the Orioles had a Major League scout at Sunday’s game between the Triple-A affiliates of the Tigers and Yankees. Not only did the Tigers’ second-best pitching prospect Andy Oliver start that contest, but the Tigers’ front office instructed manager Phil Nevin to use Charlie Furbush. It appears that the Tigers and Orioles match up well for a Guthrie trade.
Various rumors have reported that the Orioles would want pitching in return for Guthrie, which makes sense for obvious reasons.
Nobody cares,,,,,,,,,baseball is dead in Baltimore,,,,,,,,,,,
We got it Spy, we know your schtick. If it’s dead to you, stop reading the articles and posting the same crap after each article on Orioles baseball. Everyone on this website knows where you stand. If you want a “Ravens” website that doesn’t include the Orioles or Caps, move on, but my goodness man, let it go.
Zach, my comments aren’t about your article. You said the Orioles want pitching in return for obvious reasons and I agree.
To the Oriole fans, what happened to all those great arms that McPhail loaded up on a few years ago?
Matusz
Arrieta
Bergesen
Tillman
Patton
Britton
Mackilio
Hobgood
Those guys were supposed to be the strength of the Orioles and fans couldn’t wait till they came to the bigs. The O’s staff would jam those guys down our throat just 2 years ago. And as always, the Orioles over hyped their own players.
This team has been crap for 13 years. The Oriole fans talk about not competeing with the Yanks and RedSox because they spend big money on free agents. Hell, the Yanks and RedSox have put out more homegrown talent than the O’s have!
RedSox with Pedroia, Youkilis, Ellsbury, Papelbon, Varitek, Buchholz, Bard, Lester, Lowrie
Yanks with Jeter, Rivera, Gardner, Hughes, Cano, Posada, Chamberlain,
Orioles with Wieters, Markakis, Roberts
That’s a pity… Expecially when the Orioles have had the higher 1st round pick for 13 years straight…
Trading Guthrie — unless it is for a bona fide superstar — would be a horrible mistake. Without Guthrie, the Orioles would have one bona fide pitcher left on the team (Matusz). What does it say to Baltimore (and to baseball) to signal that we are going to compete for the next 2-3 months without major league pitchers?
I say keep him — he is the best that we have.

Where you learn to spell Shumyungi? You must be straight up stupid.
@TANK – You interrupted your game of “YU-GI-O” to bust on the guy… Leave the dude alone… Your grammar isn’t much better. “Where you learn to spell?”… How about putting “did” in between “Where & You”.
Can’t speak for him, but Shumyungi might be from a third world country where they don’t have the educational resources that we have access to.
Now take your meds and go lay down…
God, I hate Orioles haters aka fairweather fans. Please spare us. Showalter will turn this team around and consider yourselves NOT there when the going was tough for 13 yrs. Seems to me, you all forgot that the Red Sox had losing seasons too. Remember, the dreaded “curse”??? How quickly you forget. And in the 70s, and 80s, we were the class of the AL East with multiple pennants and multiple 20 game winners. Our day will come when the ship gets righted and you did was HATE.

By the way, I have to disagree with my true Orioles fans on here: GET RID GUTHRIE AS HE MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH.
@USMCvet – First let me say “Thank You” for your service and that you are a true “American Hero”.
With that said I have to disagree with you on Oriole fans being fairweather. I for one am an Oriole fan since childhood. From the “Human Vacuum”, “Cakes” and “The Blade” to “The Big Bopper”, “Brother Lo” to… Hell, no one on the current O’s has a cool nickname…
But… I am tired of the same old garbage that this owner and GM continually put on the field. They cannot draft right, afraid to make significant trades, won’t pay the money for a bigtime free agent and just go the bandaid approach to everything.
Just like Markakis. The guy is below average but he won’t get traded because Angelos likes him.
Here’s a scenerio that I like to throw out about the O’s…
You have a computer and it keeps breaking down and not working to your satisfaction. You keep taking it back in to be fixed only to have the store or maker keep doing fixes that don’t work. This continues for 13 years without the computer working decent for more than a month or two. Now do you keep throwing your good hard earned money back into the same computer and maker? Much like the O’s who WILL NOT fix their product, cheaply try to fix the problem with garbage trades or signings, while continually advertising that their product is good. By the looks of the attendance each year, Oriole fans are tired of the same old 2nd rate product.
I don’t think or want gutherie 2 leave!! He is a very good pitcher 4 my team. My Gutherie is not leaving!! Keep him!!
