After taking their first series since the All Star break, the O’s headed to Minnesota for their last series in the Metrodome.
Brian Roberts got things started early for the Orioles with am RBI double in the third that scored Michael Aubrey.
It was Roberts’ 48 double of the season which puts him two shy of the tying the club record (51) which he holds. Once B-Rob reaches 50 he will be the fourth player in baseball history to have three or more 50 RBI seasons.
Minnesota tied the game at one in the sixth when Alexi Cassila scored on a Chris Tillman wild pitch. Cassila led off the inning with a deep triple to center.
It ended up being a rough inning for the O’s pitchers. Tillman was out after loading the bases with one out, then Mark Hendrickson gave up a sac fly, and Cla Meredith came in to record the final out but not the went Twins up 2-1.
The Orioles had a chance with two outs in the seventh when Luke Scott singled and Matt Wieters hit the deepest single ever off the baggy in right field. But, Melvin Mora got the last out with a ground ball right to the first baseman.
That was all she wrote. The O’s are now 3-4 on the nine game road trip. Game two against the Twins starts tomorrow at 8 PM.
