Ubaldo Jimenez makes Orioles spring debut

Ubaldo Jimenez made his long anticipated spring debut with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday afternoon at Ed Smith Stadium. Jimenez recorded two perfect innings with three strikeouts against the Phillies. He faced the minimum six batters and struck out Jimmy Rollins and Dominic Brown in the first inning and Ryan Howard in the second.

U recorded a ground ball out in the first on Ben Revere and two fly ball outs against Marlon Byrd and Bobby Abreu in the second inning.

BSR’s own Avi Miller tweets that Jimenez was sitting 88-90 MPH in his two innings of work, touching 91 once. According to Brooks Baseball, Jimenez’s fourseam averaged 92 MPH in 2013, he relied primarily on his sinker which was thrown at an average velocity of 91 MPH.

How’s that for some over-analyzation of a Spring Training start?

A.J. Burnett toed the rubber for the Phils. The Monkton resident surrendered six earned runs on seven hits over three innings pitched. Ryan Flaherty hit a dong.
