The Baltimore Sun’s Jeff Zriebec is reporting that the Orioles have reached a deal with free agent IF and former Oriole Miguel Tejada. The addition of Tejada puts another solid bat in the middle of the Orioles line-up, but Tejada has had declining powere numbers in recent years and struggles mightily in the 2nd half of seasons. It appears that the Orioles are going to play Tejada at 3B and move Garrett Atkins to 1B. The question is, can either player handle the positions defensively.
The Tejada deal is a one year move for the Orioles whileit waits on young corner infielder’s Josh Bell and Brandon Snyder. With the possibility of both Tejada and Erik Bedard returning to the Orioles just 2 short years after they were dealt for 10 players makes Seattle and Houston all the more foolish for giving up as much as they did. It is not know what age Tejada will be when he reports to the Orioles.
What are your thoughts? Glad to have Miggy back, or would it have made more sense for the Orioles to stay away and look for other options?
Miggy fills a need and brings some excitement. I mean all he has to do is produce more than Melvin Mora did last year in order to be considered a success.
I just hope he keeps those Vitamin B12 shots away from the younger guys!
I'm also a big fan of brining Miggy back. This line up looks pretty good.
This is a no brainer. Miggy is said to be a super teammate and a professional. McPhail didn’t break the bank or jeopardize any minor leaguers as Bell is at least a year away. I applaud the move and welcome back Mr. Tejada.
He is a super teammate if you are not getting your B-12 from him, then all bets are off. There is nothing wrong with bringing back Miggy because he can still be a productive bat. I am curious to see how he handles 3B. I was just suprised that the Orioles wanted to have Miggy back. Seemed like frustration mounted during his time in Baltimore. Miggy frustrated about losing, the club about lack of hustle. Plus you add in the steroid rumors and the age controversy and I thought the O's would have stayed away. But like you said the price and length of the deal were right for the O's and likely the best Miggy could get.
