As Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun points out, the Orioles have scored 2 or fewer runs while Tommy Hunter is in the game in 10 of his last 15 starts. Hunter hasn’t won a decision since July 18 against the Minnesota Twins.
Last night Hunter threw 5 2/3 innings, surrendered two runs on six hits, walked one and struck out three. He earned his seventh loss of the season.
Of course there have been some bad outings along the way too, like when Hunter have up five earned runs in 1 2/3 innings on June 30 against the Indians or that 3 inning, 5 run outing against the Blue Jays.
In June, July and August however, Hunter has pitched six or more innings in 5 of his 7 starts.
Still think Hunter will prove to be he best of the lot of young O’s pitchers.
Still think no one connected with the O’s Front Office is smarter than two-time defending A/L Champion Nolan Ryan…Nolan gave away a “promising” young pitcher who had already had a 13-Win Season in the Bigs for an 8th Inning Pitcher from the Far East who had known issues pitching in heat. and oh by the way, Uehara was like 10 years older than Tommy Hunter…Who would do that? Someone smarter than all of us…Now, with apologies to Zach and his statement
“In June, July and August however, Hunter has pitched six or more innings in 5 of his 7 starts.”, the fact remains that this cat has a 5.55 ERA in 17 starts this year, which is half a run higher than in his 11 Baltimore starts last year…Not sure where the optimism with this guy from Zach or MGW? I don’t see it, myself…
Too early to judge Hunter from my perspective,,,,,,,,he will probably stay for a while because he is cheap………..
I guess my statement is more of an indictment than a compliment.
