On May 14, 2012, Orioles left fielder Xavier Avery made history as one of the few humans on planet earth to record a Major League hit. It’s a dream that just about every sports fan fantasizes about as a kid and the 22-year-old lefty fulfilled that challenge.
The X-Man showed off the ball from his first hit to his Twitter followers. Avery’s double off of Yankees starter Ivan Nova came in his second big league game and the Orioles snagged the ball as a keep sake for the kid.
Over his next ten games, Avery hit .300 with four doubles, a triple and 3 RBI in 40 at bats, but he’s cooled off of late.
He went just 1-for-13 in the Royals series and struckout three times. The X-Man has shown a lot of promise in his first two weeks in baseball, but now the book is out on him and he has to adjust.
We’ll all be pulling for the speedy outfielder from Georgia who could be Baltimore’s leadoff man of the future.
