Dan Duquette said he would sign a free agent starting pitcher and sign a free agent starting pitcher he did. According to MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko, the Orioles have inked Ubaldo Jimenez to a four-year, $48 million contract pending a physical.
Yeah, those last three words scare everyone. But hey, look on the bright side, Suk-min Yoon, a guy who had shoulder surgery in 2009 just passed a physical. Jimenez will be just fine.
As Kubatko points out, this is the first time the O’s have signed a free agent starter to a deal of such length.
Thanks Orioles, you’ve made a gloomy off season look a lot better. Jimenez is a young guy, has pitched in the AL and has a big upside.
Nice, nice move!
Glad they finally got a starter and he has been one of the bigger names out there this off season. But his numbers haven’t been all that impressive in the AL (Cleveland). 26-30 record over three years, 4.6 ERA, and 1.465 WHIP. Here’s to hoping his number look more like last season than the two prior with Cleveland.
