In a situation still developing, Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson reports that the Baltimore Ravens have traded wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick.
Boldin heads to the team he helped to beat in Super Bowl XLVII, in which he scored a touchdown and had 104 yards receiving.
News over the weekend of Boldin rejecting the Ravens offer of cutting $2 million from his salary surfaced, the Ravens stood to cut Boldin by releasing the veteran wide out with a cap hit of $7.531 this coming season. Instead, they’ll get a 6th round selection from the Niners.
The team will now save $5.5 million on this year’s salary cap as they turn their attention to potential free agents the team has as the free agency period begins tomorrow.
According to NFL Insider, Adam Schefter, the deal is contingent on a physical with Boldin currently in Africa on a relief effort mission.
Didn’t they hear what Mr. Flacco said,,,,,,,,,,,,he may not be very happy with Ozzie,,,,,,,,,,,,,I know I’m not…………………..
I remember being called a “hater” when I questioned the signings of bad kneed Webb, journeyman Cundiff, and the questioning signing a RB ( their NFL shelf life is about 5 years) after trading up to draft Pierce. I think I said all of these moves wooe eventually hurt the club. The Rice deal is the worst of all of them.
Thank goodness they won a Super Bowl this year. All the bills are coming due now.
Bummer, but i don’t mind the move. It will be to replace, but as we’ve seen they have done it before. This organization has made puzzling moves in the past and last year we won a super bowl so, whatever. It could also be a warning shot the guys that will be asked to restructure – Suggs and Ngata and your 25 million .. This team could be totally different by the start of training camp.
One thing i would like to see is the first day of training camp for Boldin when he walks into 9ers camp with a super bowl ring!
I agree with both MGW and Dude,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The Ravens are retooling without telling anyone,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Rice’s contract was attrocious , same with Suggs and Gnata , what I don’t understand is why they didn’t show in the playoffs , was it all to injury , if so , what will they be like moving forward,,,,,,,,,,,,the shape of the new defense scares me a bit , I don’t believe the talent level matches all the money on the defensive side of the ball,,,,,,,,,,,trust in Ozzie , no way…………….
I agree with spy,,,,,,,,,the players who actually won the super bowl , except for Joe , are all leaving , the guys who didn’t perform are staying,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,good luck,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
