So far I only know the Baltimore Grand Prix as the event that everyone has been complaining about. Construction and road closures have became the excuses for the Orioles terrible attendance in their four game series against the first place White Sox and natives of Fells Point and Federal Hill continue to dread their daily commutes.
I thought bringing IndyCar racing to Baltimore was a cool idea last year and nearly 150,000 people agreed. The Baltimore Sun’s Peter Schmuck compares the Grand Prix to Preakness is his latest column. He points out that the new organizers of the event aren’t expecting as large of crowds this year.
With smaller attendance, last year’s financial issues and the overall inconvenience, I have to wonder if it’s really worth dealing with the headache of this event.
I’ll let you tell me.
If the Ravens had a home game during this race , it would be a sellout so it’s no excuse for poor attendance,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the reason there are no fans in the seats is the past 14 years,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,as for the Race , it is a good thing for Baltimore , it brings publicity other than the murder statistics,,,,,,,,,,,,,it adds to the culture of the city , maybe one day the low-lifes in Baltimore will understand this is their home and start to take care of it a little bit,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
It’s a novelty that will have a 3-4 year run and then be an after thought. Honestly, does anyone know a single person who could name one driver or who’s leading the series ( I guess there’s a series?!?)?
Again, shows Baltimore is not a big league city. NCAA Tourney? Who needs that, we have the Grand Prix! Yee Ha, Hon!
Have to disagree. The Detriot GP brings in 375k fans during its races and has attracted a CART race yearly. Andretti and rahal has won some of those races. baltimore can do the same thing and become big time for Formula 1 and CART racing. This is just the tip of the iceberg. When Beth Steel closes for good next year, a NASCAR track would be awesome. Besides what else do the rednecks like TCR69 have to do this weekend?
WOW , way to go incher , I’m proud of you and your open wheel knowledge , it’s nice to be enlightened…………..
Rachael’s Dowry Bed and Breakfast is a half block from the Baltimore Grand Prix entrance at Camden Yards. Our B&B is filled with racing enthusiasts making the weekend an exciting time. They love Baltimore. It has been amazing the wonderful comments we hear from racing fans regarding Baltimore as a racing venue. The PR, the many taxes, fees etc. that flow into Baltimore and the general fun is well worth it.
Nice , something positive for a change , good for you……..
