Mark Turgeon’s coaching staff at the University of Maryland is beginning to take shape as Dalonte Hill and Scott Spinelli have reportedly joined the Terps.
Hill, who we discussed earlier in the week, joins Maryland as the former assistant coach at Kansas State. According to experts, he will be a vital asset to Turgeon’s staff when it comes to recruiting locally as he has several ties with D.C. area teams.
According to Jeff Barr of the Washington Post, Hill was willing to take a pay cut to come to Maryland as he thought the job would better suit him for a head coaching job down the road. Hill was expected to make the announcement Monday, but was conflicted about the decision and “needed extra time to make the choice,” Barr reports.
Spinelli joins Turgeon at Maryland after previously being his top assistant at Texas A&M. Spinelli and Hill join Bino Ransom to round out Turgeon’s staff.
The moves have been praised by expert Dave Telep of ESPN.com. Ben Goldstein of the Testudo Times pointed out Telep’s thoughts in a blog post on Tuesday night.
“I think it’s abundantly clear that Mark Turgeon is going to put a premium on relationships with the high school and AAU coaches in the area. Dalonte Hill is probably the biggest departure from Coach Williams that Mark Turgeon could have, and it’s a very significant hire for Maryland recruiting because he’ll be a catalyst for a bunch of relationships.”
F*ckin’ tremendous issues here. I am very satisfied to see your post. Thanks so much and i am looking forward to contact you. Will you please drop me a e-mail?
