Domonique Foxworth Ravens’ career likely comes to an end

The Baltimore Ravens placed cornerback Domonique Foxworth on injured reserve on Wednesday morning and re-signed linebacker Prescott Burgess. Foxworth underwent knee surgery in training camp last season and never fully recovered. He was inactive for the Ravens against the Rams last week.

Foxworth was a huge free agent signing for the Ravens in 2009. He was a local guy who came in to hold together a shaky secondary and got paid big money to do so. He signed a four year, $27.2 million dollar deal with a $4 million signing bonus. He’s making $4.4 million this season and is scheduled to make $5.6 million in 2012. I don’t see that happening.

He worked diligently for the players during the NFL lockout, but ultimately was not under team supervision during the crucial parts of his recovery process. The Ravens could have cut him at the beginning of the season, but took the high road and hoped that he would turn things around.

John Harbaugh told Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times that next year is “up in the air.”

I like Foxworth as a person…as a fellow Terp, I’ve always rooted for him. It’s unfortunate with the injuries, but the truth is that he never lived up to the billing here in Baltimore. Just didn’t play well if u ask me….with great speed and descent size, he just couldn’t put it together. Spent most of the time slipping, and giving receivers the biggest cushions in the entire NFL. It hurts me to say all that cos dude is from Maryland, and seems like a smart stand up guy.
