The best remaining free agent, now that Prince Fielder is off the market, is starting pitcher Edwin Jackson. Coincidentally enough, both players are represented by Super Agent Scott Boras.
Dan Connolly of The Sun reports that the Orioles would consider offering Jackson a four year deal, but indicates that they are long shots to land him. The Red Sox are reportedly the favorites.
Not because he’s getting a better offer, but because he’d take a one-year deal from Boston or a multi-year deal from Baltimore.
Son of a..
Everyone knows the Orioles have to overspend to bring in free agents. But what do you do when that stops working?
It’s going to be a long season.
I’m going to make this as clear as possible: YOU DO NOT WANT EDWIN JACKSON. NOT FOR ONE YEAR OR FOUR YEARS. Jackson is a career 60-60 pitcher with a 4.46 ERA. In his best year (with Detroit in 2009), he was 13-9 with a 3.62 ERA pitching in a very pitcher friendly park. Last year was another relatively good year (12-9, 3.79) with the White Sox and the Cardinals, two more very pitcher friendly parks and teams. So I’m going to go ahead and say that if Jackson were to come to the AL East and pitch against much better hitters who play in little league stadiums, his numbers aren’t going to get better. Why do you want to pay $15-17 million a year (Boras’ current asking price) for a .500 pitcher with a 4+ ERA? I know it sucks to have to listen to “wait another year”, but wait another year so you can get a guy like Cain or Hamels or Greinke that will be able to anchor the rotation for years to come. Don’t waste a 4 year deal on a 28 year old with a declining K/9.
Doesn’t really matter does it ? Why , because baseball is dead in Baltimore and Edwin knows it , who wants a pitcher named Edwin anyway……………
Forget Edwin Jackson,He struggles to even be a ,500 pitcher. Would give up many HRs @ Camden Yards. We have enough pitchers like him now!!!!
Orioles are still paying with Confederate Money…
agree, the O’s are an embarrassment now and the reason is Peter Angelos is in it to make money and not to be competitive. He has hurt this once great franchise plenty and deserves all the negative criticism he gets. He has used the great fans of Baltimore just like the politicians have used the great people of Maryland. To get rich.
Lets be honest here : the truth hurts to the true O’s fan and everyone knows it , at some point in time we all have to realize the Angelos family just wants to get richer and does not give a damn about the fans.
