In the scorebook, it just looked like another runner Matt Wieters caught attempting to steal. But Alexi Casilla‘s incredible acrobatics are what led to the Orioles catcher gunning down the speedy Desmond Jennings in the bottom of the second inning on Sunday.
With one out and the Orioles up 5-1, Jennings attempted to take second. Wieters fired the ball down to Casilla who had to reach across his body to make the catch and then spin to put the tag on Jennings’ foot. It was a pretty sweet play.
GIF after the bump.
Wieters should take a stab at the starting rotation with that hard, breaking pitch he threw down to second.
That 2-seamer broke several inches and had some mustard on it. Wieters could be the Staff Ace.
If he was a little quicker he could throw AND catch.
Weiters may have a little Chris Davis in him. Strop was a SS, now is a RP. Davis was a SP and now he is a 1B. Chow was a MAN now he is a LADY. Wow, how things change. Is Mystery man still in jail?
