Just a few hours after we speculated Todd Heap’s ties to the Pittsburgh Steelers, The New York Daily News reported that Rex Ryan has the free agent tight end working out for the New York Jets this morning.

Not only did Ryan invite Heap to the big apple, the Daily News reports that he even picked him up at the airport on Saturday night for this morning’s workout.

Ryan rolled out the red carpet for the veteran tight end by picking him up at Newark Liberty International Airport Saturday night, according to a source. Ryan grabbed Heap in a bear hug before driving off in a SUV. The News has learned that the Jets haven’t made an offer to the veteran tight end yet. A deal wasn’t imminent as of Saturday night.

Heap and Ryan were on Ravens teams together for eight years. This situation sounds eerily similar to when the Ravens cut Trevor Pryce and Rexy swooped in to grabbed him.

Jamison Hensley of The Sun tweeted that Heap was told by the Ravens to test the free agent market, but that Baltimore is interested in bringing him back.
