It has been announced that former Oriole Roberto Alomar was elected to be a member of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame along with pitcher Bert Blyleven. While it was somewhat of a shock that he did not get the necessary votes last year, Alomar was fully expected to make it this year.
Peter Angelos released the following statement…
“We congratulate Roberto Alomar on his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Although he spent just three of his 17 seasons in Baltimore, Roberto’s accomplishments during his time here were significant. His performance during those years, which included three All-Star Game selections, two Gold Gloves and countless on-field heroics, helped the team make two playoff appearances and showcased Roberto’s Hall of Fame credentials.”
Do you this honor was well-deserved?
When you think second base greats- who immediately comes to mind- Morgan, Sandberg…I think Alomar might be the best ever. My question is why did it take two cycles to get him into the Hall?
It was definitely the spitting incident.
Lots of nasty rumors circulating about the guy, but a lot of it seems without merit. He was a heckuva player in his brief stint in Baltimore.
