In addition to a crazy travel schedule to Detroit, the Orioles will be without starting shortstop J.J. Hardy in game one against the Tigers. According to MLB.com’s Britt Ghiroli, James Jerry has been dealing with back spasms the past two games and the O’s opted to play it safe with him today. Hardy expects to play on Saturday.
J.J. Hardy said it's a light spasm in his lower back. Played last two games with it and he expects to start tmrw. #Orioles

He’ll be replaced by Ryan Flaherty at shortstop, who begins the season with a cool 0-for-11 at the dish. Jonathan Schoop slides to third base, while Steve Lombardozzi gets the start at second.
Hardy is 3-for-12 on the young season.
