MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko breaks the news that the Orioles will call up stud prospect Kevin Gausman to make Wednesday’s start against the Detroit Tigers. Gausman will match up against six-time All-Star and 2011 Cy Young Award winner/MVP, Justin Verlander — no pressure kid.
Gausman threw a season-high 77 pitches in 4 2/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, allowing two hits, walking three and striking out six. It was his first appearance since going on the disabled list with pneumonia.
The Orioles planned on extending Gausman’s pitch limit to 90 before his illness.
The Orioles haven’t announced a corresponding roster move or disclosed their plans for Wei-Yin Chen (who was scheduled to pitch) or Miguel Gonzalez. Roch speculates that Gonzo could be pushed back or moved to the pen.
