I knew the timetable for Nick Markakis’ return seemed a little too optimistic. I don’t care if he did break a bone that is completely useless to baseball players, he still broke a bone and required surgery.
The Orioles saying that he could be back in 3-4 weeks was just as crazy as Terrell Suggs saying he’d miss less than half of the football season after tearing his Achilles.
I always prefer the Disney World wait time approach. Give me an extra 15 minutes, or in Markakis’ case two weeks, and then when I get to the front of the line (off the DL) sooner, I don’t feel as bad.
The Orioles were originally hoping that Markakis would be cleared to swing a bat last week, but doctors still haven’t given him the thumbs up. Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports that he hopes to still return before the All-Star break.
Markakis broke his hamate bone on June 1 in his right hand.
