Day of Rivals

In two physical games against their bitter rivals, Navy and Johns Hopkins left M&T Bank Stadium victorious on a wet Saturday afternoon.  In the days first game, the 12th ranked Midshipman ran past Army 8-4, and in the second game 11th ranked Johns Hopkins was able to hang on despite a late run by the 15th ranked Terps for a 10-9 win. Navy relied heavily on the play of senior goalkeeper  Tommy Phelan who turned away 16 shots frustrating the Black Knights all afternoon. The second game was back and forth for all four quarters with both teams seemingly taking control at different points of the game. Johns Hopkins was lead by Kyle Wharton who netted a hat trick for the Blue Jays in the more physical of the two games. Filled with big hits, hard penalties and plenty of pushing and shoving, Hopkins and Maryland played another classic in their bitter interstate rivalry. Over 20,000 fans, including New England Patriots coach Bill Bellichick, sat through rain showers and chilly temperatures to watch some of the best lacrosse teams in the country.
