Just how important has good pitching been in the Orioles success this season?

MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko tweeted on Friday that the Orioles are 22-1 when their starters record quality outings.

That one in the loss column came in a game in which the Orioles fell 2-1 to the Yankees.  Coincidentally enough, Jason Hammel started and surrendered just two earned runs and five hits in six innings.  It’s Hammel’s only “L” of the season.

Last night, Hammel continued to dominate on the bump, pitching six scoreless innings, allowing five hits, a walk and fanning seven.  It was his sixth quality start of the season and sixth win in 9 games started.

The Orioles are 7-2 when Hammel takes the hill.
