It appears as though the Orioles have signed veteran starter Johan Santana. Orioles prospect Eduardo Rodriguez posted this picture with Santana on his Instagram account.
My wife, who is fluent in espanol and enjoying her 264th snow day of the school year, translated Rodriguez’s comments:
I’ve respected this person since I was a child and he was always my idol. Thank God that today I have the opportunity to have him as my teammate.
Santana held a throwing session for seven teams last week and reportedly topped out at 81 MPH. He is attempting to come back from his second shoulder surgery in 31 months.
MLB.com’s Britt Ghiroli tweets that the Orioles are expected to use Santana as a lefty reliever.
Santana is not official yet. But pretty close. And the organization does see him a potential lefty reliever. #Orioles

I had a dream last night , in it the birds won the world series and Santana was their ACE all year,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just imagine if he returns to his best form , I know he is older now but he has a friend in Cruz , if you know what I mean……………….
81 mph?!?! At 48 years old, I still have a shot! If only I was a lefty…
I pitched fast pitch softball better than 81 , I think , at Patterson Park in the seventies……………yea I’m an old fart , but boy could I pitch…………….. i even had a change up knuckle ball……………..the good old days……………….Really , I don’t know how fast I pitched , all I know was if I hit you with the ball , it hurt for days and this was a softball , a dudley I believe…………………………
