Baltimore fans know that the Ravens always over shadow their baseball neighbors the Orioles.
I’m sure by now you know all about the Ravens big off season acquisition, Anquan Boldin, but, do you know what is going on in Sarasota with the O’s?
We covered the Orioles first victory of the spring last week, unfortunately they haven’t picked up a win since, dropping their last four straight.
After leading off with a homerun in his spring debut, Felix Pie grabbed his leg while rounding second base and came out with a leg injury. It wound up being just a minor scare, but a scare nonetheless for a guy the Orioles are hoping will be their speedster on the base paths in 2010.
Speaking of injuries, the Orioles have yet to see Brian Roberts take the field. B-Rob is sidelined with a small herniated disc in his back. “April 6th is our main goal and we will keep that as our focus, not necessarily today or tomorrow,” Roberts told 105.7 The Fan. “I have a few little barriers I want to work through first, but other than that, everything is great.”
The birds were also worried about the status of Justin Turner, who took a shot during batting practice. It wound up just being a bruised foot.
Kevin Millwood struggled in his spring debut against the Detroit Tigers. He surrendered six runs on seven hits in 2/3 of an inning. Fortunately for Baltimore the young arms have fared well.
On Thursday, Brian Matusz gave up one and struck out four in 1 1/3 innings and Chris Tillman threw two perfect innings on Friday.
Jeremy Guthrie told the media he was “very pleased” with his outing against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. He gave up one run on three hits in 2 1/3 innings, but was happy with his strength and ability to work the fastball in the O’s 5-4 loss.
Baltimore has a full week with seven games against six different opponents.
Whether it was listening to Joe and Fred on Wednesday or watching the game on MASN yesterday, the O's have me on the hook already this year. I cannot wait till April.
I'm siked too. We've got to get on the first annual BSR Orioles Meet up!
As I pointed out after the first win, I believe it is important for this team to learn to win. I know it’s ST, but I am alarmed by the team starting 1-4. While the Yankees have the same spring record, we are talking two different animals. The Yankees are anchored by seasoned, championship caliber players whereas no one on this Oriole club has experienced a whole lot of success, in terms of winning, at the big league level. I know putting too much emphasis on ST, either good or bad, is generally counter productive, but this team must learn to win and learn to win now.
They're down 3-0 in the bottom of the 7th right now…
