Just before the 2010 trade deadline came to a close, the Orioles made their second trade of the year dealing relief pitcher Will Ohman to the Marlins for Rick VandenHurk.
The Dutch right hander will be sent to Triple-A Norfolk to pitch out of their rotation, but is expected to be called up later this season. VandenHurk has spent the past four seasons between Triple-A and the Majors and has posted a 8-9 record with a 5.96 ERA in 32 starts, 35 overall games.
MLBTradeRumors.com’s Tim Dierkes ranked the move as “an acceptable return for two months of Ohman.”
Strikeouts have been there, but everything else has been an issue (including health). Baseball America ranked Vanden Hurk 13th among Marlins prospects before the ’07 season, noting that he was signed at 17 out of the team’s Dutch academy. Did you know the Marlins had a Dutch academy? BA described Vanden Hurk as “smart and coachable.” — MLBTradeRumors.com
Again, what can you expect for a 30 something year old journeyman reliever. I think guys like 2468 think they should have landed Cliff Lee for Ohman.
I am constantly searching for somebody to trade articles and reviews together with, I’m a undergraduate and possess a blog here on our campus web site. The subject of your website and writting style would definitely go great in some of my category’s, let me know should you be up for this.
