The NFL Hall of Fame semifinalists were announced on Sunday morning and among those listed included former Ravens majority owner Art Modell and tight end Shannon Sharpe.

Jamison Hensley reported the story on Ravens Insider.

This the seventh time that Modell has made the cut as a semifinalist. Modell’s candidacy has been a hot-button issue with voters because of his unpopular relocation of the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore in February 1996.

Modell was a finalist for the Hall of Fame in 2001. Since then, he has been a semifinalist in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

The Ravens’ majority owner from 1996 to 2004, Modell sold the team to Steve Bisciotti, retaining minority owner status.

You’ve got to think that Sharpe will make the cut this year, it was surprising that he was overlooked last year. But unfortunately, I think history shows Modell’s fate in the Hall of Fame voting. Do you think Sharpe or Modell will make it to the Hall this year?
