The Terps were unable to pull out the victory at home against the Cavaliers at home yesterday unlike the Lady Terps or the Terps wrestling who captured the ACC Tournament title. The Terps basketball team fought valiantly and really showed good effort to come back after being down to the Cavs at halftime 31-22. The Terps clawed back and lost in overtime 75-72. Let’s get to the report card of Sunday’s game.
Sean Mosley A-
Very Good Sean showed up on senior day as he had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 dimes. The only thing to cap the day would have been a W for the lone senior on the Terps squad but alas it was not meant to be.
Terrell Stoglin B+
The Gunner was in very good form pouring in 25 points, 3 steals, and 2 assists. The 25 points assured him of leading the league in scoring and tied for ninth in the country at 21.2 per game. Stoglin actually made more from three point range (5) and the foul line (4) than he did from two point range (3) despite having 16 shots from 2 point range. READ MORE >>>

The Terps traveled to Hotlanta and left the ATL with another loss to add to the collection they have gotten throughout the season. The game was back and forth the entire time but the Yellow Jackets (10-18, 3-11) made the plays down the stretch to secure the victory 63-61. The Terps (16-12, 6-8) only had 24 second half points and only shot 34.5% from the field. However there were some bright spots for the team. Let’s take a look at the report card.
Nick Faust B-
Faust had 11 points and was 2-3 from three. However, the Terps had only 7 assists on their 19 field goals. Faust contributed only 2 of the assists. I understand Faust is out of his natural position playing point guard following Pe’Shon’s Howard season ending injury, but the Terps need more than 7 assists. Maybe the Terps need to institute some Norman Dale into their games the last few games of the season.

umterps.com The Clemson Tigers (11-12, 3-6) were in another dog fight as is typical for their season (10 of their 12 losses by single digits), but the Terps (14-9, 4-5) were able to hold on 64-62. The Terps were up 53-39 with 7:55 to go and the Tigers had a chance to tie it after Maryland fouled Andre Young on a 3 point shot. He was an 88% free throw shooter and made 1 of 3. It was a tough hard fought win and if I had any hair, I probably would have pulled some out. Let’s get to the report card.
Pe’Shon Howard D+
Meh. That’s all I can summon for Howard’s game tonight. The most frustrating thing is that Howard is a 70% free throw shooter and missed two front ends of 1 in 1s. He had more turnovers (3) than assists (2).
Terrell Stoglin A +
In the first half he was 5-7 for 13 points and the rest of the team was 5-16 for 13 points. If that was all he did, that would have been great but he was excellent in the second half and got big baskets and free throws to cinch the win for the Terps. He finished with 27 points on 9-11 shooting (4-6 from distance), 4 steals, and clutch free throw shooting. The four steals led to easy offense for himself and his teammates. READ MORE >>>

Last night, the Terps struggled shooting in the first half as did the Yellow Jackets. However, the Terps (12-4, 2-1) led by Terrell Stoglin went on an early run in the second half to go up 10 points. The Jackets (8-9, 1-2) did make runs to try and close the gap but were never able to take the lead again as the Terps won 61-50. The Terps were able to get key baskets from Sean Mosley down the stretch and James Padgett’s offensive rebounding were keys. The Terps again needed to hold their home court and pick up a victory over a weaker team and they did. Let’s get to the report card.
Pe’Shon Howard B-
Pe’Shon looked for his offense last night and was successful finding it. He was more aggressive taking shots and made a three point shot in the first half. Mark Turgeon was wanting Pe’Shon to average 10 points a game and be more aggressive looking for his offense. He did a very good job with that but now he just needs to convert a higher percentage and hold onto the ball as he had five turnovers and only 1 assist. READ MORE >>>

At
Maryland Terrapins (11-4, 1-1 ACC)
Sunday Jan 15th 4pm Comcast Center, College Park, MD
Leading scorer: GT- Glen Rice Jr. 14.4ppg MD- Terrell Stoglin 21.3ppg
Last game : GT- def NC St 83-71 MD- def Wake 70.64
Outlook:
I am sure everyone remembers this from a two seasons ago … I know I do, it caused me to make facebook group(which was later deleted because he is terrible) called “I’m a sucker for Tucker” right after the shot went in, of course the adult beverages I had during the game also contributed. If this game comes down to a buzzer beater it will not make Maryland fans happy, then again, they are the Terps so you know they will make it close. The Yellow Jackets are coming off an impressive road win against NC St in their last game, but given the roller coaster ride that is the ACC, you can’t put too much stock in that READ MORE >>>

Baltimore Sports Report is learning of a report which states that Mark Karcher, the head men’s basketball coach at St. Frances Academy in East Baltimore, has stepped down. A St. Frances graduate himself, Karcher went on to have a successful college career with the Temple Owls, and played professionally in France.
According to several sources that are very close to the St. Frances basketball program and Karcher himself, the coach is resignation is effective immediately. This announcement comes just days before the season starts, with his St. Frances team expected to contend for the MIAA A and Baltimore Catholic League titles this season.
The report speculates that Karcher’s departure may be related to a conflict Karcher had with athletic director Nicholas Myles, who also coaches the JV boys’ basketball team. Myles will reportedly be taking over the Varsity head coaching duties in the wake of Karcher’s absence. Karcher’s resignation appears to be the only shake-up occurring in the St. Frances program, as all of the Varsity players are expected to stay at the school, and play out their season.

The Terps played another strong road game beating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 74-63. With the Jackets undermanned in the paint, the Terps made a concerted effort to keep it down low. They outscored Tech 48-30 in the painted area. Jordan Williams led the way with 21 points and 15 boards getting back on track with double-doubles. At the half, the Terps led 35-34 with all their points coming in the paint or at the free throw line. READ MORE >>>

Last night opened the college basketball season and the Maryland Terrapins got a win in the 2K Sports Classic Coaches vs. Cancer opening round defeating the Seattle Redhawks 105-76 at Comcast Center. They were paced by Sean Mosley with 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists and Jordan Williams with 17 points and 15 boards.
The game opened up very sloppily for both teams and was back and forth. In the first 15 minutes, the game was tied 10 different times. Maryland finished the game with 29 turnovers to Seattle’s 27, and for both teams, it seemed to be a combination of both nerves of opening night as well as getting new parts acclimated with the old parts. Maryland has 6 new faces at College Park this year with Pe’Shon Howard (5 points, 8 assists), Terrell Stoglin (15 points, 5 assists), Hauker Palsson, Ashton Pankey, Mychal Parker, and Berend Weijs (3 blocks).

In a game that predictably down to the wire, No. 22 Maryland finally got over the hump and defeated No. 4 Duke 79-72 on Senior Night in College Park.
When the game started, there was the feeling that Greivis Vasquez wouldn’t let the Terrapins lose on the last home game of his college career. Not only was it Vasquez’s last game, but also fellow guard Eric Hayes and forward Landon Milbourne’s home finale. Vasquez and the Maryland offense got off to a fast start and built up a 14 point lead.
As always, though, the Blue Devils closed the lead to two before the half and then took the lead. Maryland never backed down from Duke and pulled out the 79-72 victory.
Aside from Vasquez, who had 20 points, Adrian Bowie, Sean Mosley and Jordan Williams were clutch down the stretch. Bowie didn’t miss a shot in his playing time. Mosley hit free throws to ice the game for the second game in a row. Williams played one of his best games of the year.
Maryland is now 22-7, 21-7 in Division I games, and 12-3 in the ACC. They’ll take their six game winning streak in to Virginia for the season finale. Virginia has been rough for Maryland in recent seasons, but Maryland is playing for a shot to be the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament.

It started later than expected and took longer, but the Maryland Terrapins held on for a 104-100 double overtime victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies. Sean Mosley hit two free throws with one second left in the second overtime to seal Maryland’s fourth league road win. Those two points of his 17 were the biggest points of the game.
Saturday night’s game was played under odd circumstances considering it was supposed to start at 4 p.m., but wound up starting at 7 p.m. because of three water main breaks in Blacksburg. However, Greivis Vasquez and the rest of the Terrapins just didn’t care when the game started.
Vasquez scored 41 points on Saturday to quiet a crowd that taunted him most of the evening until halfway through the second half. Vasquez was slow to start, but caught fire in the second half and overtime. He still had his questionable shots and bad plays, but the 41 points he scored were a career high.
Eric Hayes chipped in with 12 points and 10 assists. Of his 12 points, five were free throws hit in overtime. Hayes also hit a go-ahead shot right towards the end of regulation. Malcolm Delaney went on to tie the score and send the game in to overtime, but the Baltimore native also missed two critical foul shots for the Hokies at the end of the second overtime.
Jordan Williams was also solid with 15 rebounds and nine points. The only flaw in his game so far is his foul shooting. He missed foour of his five shots from the charity stripe, however, his impact was on defense. Williams’ rebounds were critical because Maryland was outrebounded by seven again.
Dino Gregory picked up the slack for Landon Milbourne who struggled most of the night. Gregory played 32 minutes and collected five rebounds while contributing six points on offense. Gregory has really been contributing since he came back from his suspension earlier this season.
The win for Maryland Saturday night moved them closer to their goal of an NCAA Tournament berth and a bye in the ACC Tournament. With this win, Maryland moves to 21-7 overall and 11-3 in the ACC. Their conference record is good enough for second place, by a long shot, and a chance for at least a tie of a regular season ACC title. The expectation for Wednesday’s game includes an assumption that Duke will defeat Virginia Sunday night. There’s a lot on the line Wednesday night and it doesn’t get much bigger than a chance at an ACC title.

The hot Maryland Terrapins hosted the scuffling North Carolina Tar Heels in a game completing each team’s first half of conference games. For the Terps, it was successful, the Tar Heels, however, have ended up on the wrong end of the scoreboard six times.
Maryland took a 7-6 lead and never looked back against North Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Greivis Vasquez had his moments of bad plays, but he played very well, scoring 23 and assisted on 11 other made baskets. Vasquez outplayed Tar Heels’ Larry Drew II, schooling the sophomore on numerous occasions. READ MORE >>>
