28 years ago the Baltimore Orioles were on top of the world, winning the World Series in 1983 against the Philadelphia Phillies. Below is a video of the ’83 World Series player introductions before game one at Memorial Stadium. A young Cal Ripken, Jr highlights the video with the series MVP to be, Rick Dempsey, taunting the Phillies as he ran out on to the field.

Let this serve as a reminder to the Os fans that blame everything on Angelos that this was the last time the Orioles were good, unless you want to count the 13 years later when he owned the team and they went to the playoffs again for the first time. Let me also remind you of these names…Rick Burleson, Dwight Evans, Lee Lacy, Greg Luzinski, Fred Lynn, Keith Moreland, Ron Kittle, ….I could go on and on. For you young bucks, these were all th guys paraded in town, long past their primes, and long before Angelos.
Now let me toss out these names…Ripken, Jr., Markakis, Roberts….these are the All Star level position players this team has produced since 1981….again long before Angelos. Now, granted, it’s been 13 years of futility under Angelos, but it started long before him.
Know that history goes back longer than your lifetime.
Zach – thanks for digging that up.
For those of you too young to remember, I’m sorry…I hope you get to experience a world champion here 3 times as a baseball fan. Twice as a footballvfan.
@MGW –
Meant to say, I got to experience 3 world series championships and 2 super bowls.
Okay, I’m calling for the audit…From what I gather from your prior posts, MGW, you are not yet AARP-eligible…Meaning you wouldda been, at best, knee-high to a grasshopper in the Fall of 1966…Lest the dude from Boston be observing this string, methinks you oughtta come clean on the whole “I got to experience 3 world championships” line of thinking…
Almost forgot…Z-Man, Nice Posting from the way-back machine! Ol’ Bruz? He we was just 20 that season…Man, was thatta team or what? Survived the loss of their Closer for a month and not one, but two seven game losing streaks…Great to see Al Bumbry getta ring near the end of his career…How ’bout Jim Dwyer starting over Kenny Singleton? Great memories! Next challenge is the footage from 1970 and 1966… 🙂
