A longterm contract appears to be in the works for Joe Flacco. Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports that the Ravens and Flacco will begin contract extension talks at the Combine next Wednesday.
“I suspect it will take a little time,” La Canfora told Ryan Mink at the Ravens official website (not to be confused with fan websites). “This is a tricky one. I don’t know who the comparable is.”
As Mink points out, Flacco hasn’t put up Pro Bowl caliber numbers, but has more regular season wins (44) than any QB in his first first years in the league.
“Is [San Francisco’s] Alex Smith a $9 to $10 million a year guy? Probably,” he added. “So is Joe $12 or $13 [million]? It’s difficult to figure it all out.”
La Canfora predicted a six-year deal for the Ravens QB.
Flacco will become a free agent after the 2012-2013 season, so there’s plenty of time to negotiate a deal.
Zach , there is not that much time to negotiate,,,,,,,,the Ravens do not want Flacco to sniff free agency,,,,,,,,,if he does , all it takes is one team to covet him more than the Ravens and his price goes through the roof…………
Tough one for Ol’ Bruz…Six years at $13,000,000 per seems like too much for the 10 best QB in the League…But that seems to be the going rate, and if not Joe Cool, then who? I don’t have that answer…So sign him up, I guess…But can they at least put a clause in his new contract that he can no longer throw passes behind receivers on crossing routes?
