Every Monday I will be posting random news and notes I can find about the Orioles either from the past week or just in general. This is meant as an entertainment purpose on Monday because it is the most dismal of the days.
- In the games against the Texas Rangers and the Chicago White Sox, the Orioles scored 21 runs over the seven games. Back in June, they scored 19 against the Phillies in one game.
- Over that stretch of seven games, the Orioles hit seven home runs. In the game where they scored 19 runs against Philadelphia, they had eight home runs.
- Before Manny Machado‘s two run home run in Saturday’s loss to Chicago, the Orioles were on a scoreless streak that lasted 26 innings.
- Saturday was the second time in three years that the Orioles lost to the White Sox 3-2 on the 4th of July. In 2013, they lost on a walk off against Tommy Hunter.
- The Orioles have not won on the 4th of July since 2010. They beat the Red Sox 6-1 behind starter Brian Matusz.
- The Orioles have not hosted a home game on the 4th of July since 2008. They beat the Rangers 10-4 with Jeremy Guthrie as the starter.
- This will be my last 4th of July stat: the Orioles are 3-7 in their last 10 games on Independence Day dating back to 2004. (They did not play on July 4th in 2012 or 2014.)
- In Chaz Roe‘s first 15 appearance for the Orioles, he only allowed two earned runs over that span. In two consecutive appearances against the Rangers, he allowed four earned runs; two runs each game.
- The Orioles have two starters with ERA’s under three: Wei-Yin Chen (2.84) and Ubaldo Jimenez (2.96). Weird feeling, right?
- Four out of the five Orioles starters have 60 strikeouts or more. The only one below 60: Bud Norris with 42. To be fair, Norris has only pitched 58.1 innings.
- Out of the four starters with more than 15 starts, Ubaldo Jimenez has the fewest walks with 22.
- After 16 starts, Ubaldo Jimenez has allowed 22 walks. In 2014, after 16 starts, he had allowed 53.
- Darren O’Day has a 344 ERA+, second closest is Zach Britton with 215.
- Darren O’Day remains the only Orioles pitcher with less than a 1 WHIP.
- Travis Snider has fallen back to 6th on the Orioles in bWAR with 1.5.
- Manny Machado has a bWAR of 4.3. Travis Snider, Chris Davis, Caleb Joseph, Ryan Flaherty and Steve Pearce have a combined 4.2 bWAR.
- Only four Orioles have more than 10 doubles: Chris Davis, Manny Machado, Adam Jones and Jimmy Paredes.
- Chris Davis has 103 strikeouts. The second closest is Manny Machado with 57.
- Adam Jones has 16 walks. Last season, he finished with 19.
- Also, Jones has 16 walks and 10 home runs. He has finished with more walks than home runs in a season since 2012: 34 walks, 32 home runs.
- Chris Parmelee has not has a multi-hit game since June 26th.
- Parmelee has also appeared in 13 straight games for the Orioles. In those 13 games, he has had 38 at bats, resulting in eight hits. That is a .211 batting average.
- The Orioles are 2-3 since designating Delmon Young for assignment.
- After 82 games this season, the Orioles are 43-39. After 82 games in 2014, the Orioles were 43-39.
