Who’s the more likely Red Sox closer now that Andrew Bailey is down for a while: Alfredo Aceves, Daniel Bard, or Mark Melancon?
Aceves is their new closer. Melancon is setting him up. Bard is staying in the rotation for the time being. Both Aceves and Bard are good pickups.
So I drafted Trevor Cahill late but after looking at his numbers I just don’t see much there really that I like. Would you drop him for Juan Nicasio or Drew Pomeranz and if so which one do you like more?
That’s tough. Cahill is just plain solid. He will give you a quality start and a chance to win almost every outing. He will be consistent for you. On the other hand, Nicasio and Pomeranz have higher ceilings, strike out more hitters, and are more inconsistent. They won’t be pretty good every single start like Cahill will be. I’m sure both will have some rocky starts. But both will also have some very good starts with a lot of K’s where they dominate. I like Pomeranz better than Nicasio oveall, but Pom is on an innings limit. He isn’t pitching until next Sunday for the first time. He will be skipped once in awhile throughout the season. I think Cahill is a safer bet and I’d stick with him. However, if Pomeranz dominates right away, like Lincecum and Latos did, grab him immediately.
