Buck Showalter improved his record to 137-137 with the Baltimore Orioles after a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night. The Birds skipper took the reigns of the Birds franchise on August 3, 2010 and as Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com points out, he has put this team in postseason contention for the first time in 15 years.
Don’t act surprised though, this is what Buck Showalter does.
He improved the Yankees by 12 games between the 1992-1993 seasons, took the Diamondbacks from 65 wins in 1998 to 100 in 199 and the Rangers from 71 to 2003 to 89 in 2004.
The Orioles have now tied their season high 13 games over .500 at 70-57 and are now just 3.5 games back of the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East.
Buck won AL Manager of the Year honors in 1994 and 2004, you have to think he’s a strong contender for a third in 2012 as well.
Buck “The Magician” Showalter has got to be Manager of the Year. I tuned in last night and said “what the hell is Lew Ford doing in the lineup?!?!” Guy promply goes 2 for 4 with a homerun in a game where runs were at a premium. I shut up after that.
MGW, I like your honesty unlike some of these other fake fans and wannabe bandwagoners.
173-173* Buck’s record with O’s
and your point is what?
He’s doing it with a roster of journeymen, no names, and some young talent. As MGW hinted at above, Buck and the O’s are doing things this year that can’t be explained. 71-57 record with a -39 run differential???
MGR of the decade as far as I’m concerned,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I never would have believed this could be done , actually , I see it but still don’t believe it……………
Are you jumping on the bandwagon, spy?
I want the O’s to do well , I always have,,,,,,,,,,,that being said , it doesn’t mean I have to go to OPACY or put my dollars into the Angelos trust fund,,,,,,,,,,it doesn’t mean I can’t comment on how I feel about the fourteen years of lack-luster play or the fact they didn’t make me feel like they wanted me as a fan,,,,,,,,,they pissed me off by not showing me they wanted to win , and now they are in the hunt because the rest of the division is down , good for them , I want them to win but I also want them to show me this will be long term and not a one time deal…………….Go O’s…………….
Spy,
You did realize that the O’s are playing without their starting left fielder; without their starting second baseman; with a rookie at 3rd base; and a starting rotation that has one guy in it from the Opening Day roster, right? Of course you didn’t realize it. To say the Orioles are contending because the other teams are having a down year tells you that you haven’t looked at the whole picture.
You proved my point,,,,,,,,,,,with all these pretenders in the lineup (except Machado) how good can they really be,,,,,,,,,,,because the rest of the division is having a down year it makes the O’s look better , even though they are not…………..get my point now………….
Boston has proven that simply throwing money at a problem is not going to get it done. The Orioles core is Jones, Wieters, Markakis, Machado, Johnson, Hardy…a core that most organizations would love to have. Now a guy like Tillman is showing promise. Now a guy like Britton shows that hey, my 12-13 wins last season may NOT be a fluke because I’m healthy again. You don’t and CAN’T have an All Star stud at every position – again, see Boston. So supplementing your core with decent role players – Davis, McClouth, a guy like Xavier Avery, maybe an LJ Hoes…doesn’t sound too bad to me.
Sounds like you harbor some ill feelings towards the club for the 14 long seasons. Hey, that’s your right. Luck is always involved in sports. The Ravens won a title despite NOT scoring a TD in 5 straight games.
Enjoy the ride my man. Don’t not go to see the Batman movie because you think next year’s sequel will suck. Live each day like it’s your last.
Peace!
Sounds like the truth has risen,,,,,you are a football hater and feel everyone should follow that great leader of men Peter the Great,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,wake up my dear man , there is more to life than OPACY…………….
