I’ve got to admit, when Nick Markakis hit a 383 foot bomb off of Nationals reliever Ryan Mattheus in the 11th inning, I went nuts.
So did the other Orioles fans in attendance at Nationals Park last night.
My eyes followed the ball as it traveled out of the park and hit the second the deck, but I was informed that Markakis might have watched the homer for a bit too long.

The next two Orioles batters, Adam Jones and Matt Wieters, didn’t receive any pitches to the ribs, but I have to wonder if Markakis will before this series is over. It just seems like the gritty Davey Johnson baseball we all fell in love with in Baltimore.
Sure, give us a free base runner. As close as the first game was it might be the difference.
Yea, Nick watched that one just a little bit too long. Like JJ said though, one base runner could mean the difference in these tight games. Maybe Nick gets one whistled by his ear tonight and that’s the end of it. Nice wy to start the series and one monstrous home run!

So he looked at a possible game winning shot too long… Why the hell not?
Think I’ve seen Bonds, McGwire, Pujols, Tex, Arod, etc do it so why not Markakis? Nobody would have said anything if it was that assclown Harper who did it.
Maybe thats what the Orioles need, a little cockiness and swagger…
!@#$ em all!
I’m sure that in the future Bryce Harper will be targeted for this type of thing, probably even more because of his “superstar” status.
The whole thing is stupid, pitchers hitting batters on purpose. I’ve never understood it, unless a team is blatantly and repeatedly trying to hit your players on purpose and you retaliate to protect your team.
He doesn’t hit that many of them , I’m not sure he knew how to react………..
