“We’re going to try to do everything we can to get into the playoffs this year,” Orioles GM Dan Duquette told FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal. “I just think it’s important to the fans that they know we’re trying to put a good team on the field and have a good season.”
Still think the Orioles are going to be selling at the deadline?
As Rosenthal points out, despite losing six of their last seven games and 17 of their last 24, the Orioles are still playoff contenders in July for the first time since 2005. Unfortunately we all know how that season ended.
But Duquette believes that stabilizing the rotation can still lead the Birds to the postseason. “Our future is now,” he said.
Like Rosenthal, I don’t believe Zack Greinke or Cole Hamels will be coming to Baltimore at the end of the month. But I am encouraged that the Orioles still want to go for this thing. Making the postseason should be the goal for the front office, but winning 82 games would be a huge step for this franchise and can’t be considered a disappointment.
I know it’s early, but I like what I’ve seen from DD in terms of being aggressive. It’s a far cry from the cerebral Andy McPhail who seemed to wait much too long to pull the trigger. They got the Jones deal done quick, despite the flak over the move, he traded two single A bums for a veteran who he hoped would provide some pop, and he went out and found a couple pitchers – Chen and Hamel, who are better than any of the other guys we had here. Looking forward to him having a year under his belt and a full offseason.
You like what you have seen? You need to clean those contacts, Jerry Seinfeld look alike. What has he done? Chen and Hammel and…who? Thome, over the hill, Wada, no infield depth, leading league in errors, took a flyer on the B12 Bandit. I give DD a C+. Things are looking up despite him.
If the future is now,,,,,,,,,where is the top tier player to get this team on top ? L:ooks like ‘back to the future’ to me………….
