Sports Illustrated published it’s 10th annual “Where Are They Now” and Baltimore‘s own Earl Weaver was featured in this year’s edition.
“A MIND FOR THE GAME Before laptops, spreadsheets and VORP, the wizard of Baltimore was winning pennants by following his own internal baseball calculus.”
Great article. Never really thought about it much, but perhaps Weaver was ahead of his time. I never failed to be entertained when he would come out of the dugout and argue with the umpires, with the crowd egging him on.
Best part though, about the Earl Weaver era was that the O’s were always in the hunt. Hopefully, something similar to that is about to happen again.
I sure hope so. Sometimes I think that the formula Earl used wouldn’t be so bad in the current day.
