The O’s squared off against the Toronto Blue Jays Monday afternoon in a day game at Camden Yards. The Jays brought a 6 game losing streak into Baltimore and the Birds were looking to take advantage of the struggling AL East opponent.
Jeremy Guthrie was on the hill for Baltimore, he’s struggled as of late but looked solid in his 7 innings of work for the O’s. Guthrie gave up 1 run and 7 hits on 108 pitches, he left the game with a 3-1 lead.
The O’s added 2 insurance runs in the 7th inning. Brian Roberts hit a stand up RBI triple that drove in Cesar Izturis and Aubrey Huff hit a deep sac fly that brought Roberts home, 4-1 Baltimore.
Brian Roberts was banged up in the first inning when Jose Bautista slid into him. He was limping after his triple in the 7th and left the game after that inning. Roberts reportedly had a shin contusion.
Danys Baez pitched a strong 8th inning getting three straight outs after giving up a base hit. Then George Sherrill came in to get the save.
A day win for the Orioles, how awesome is that?
