Amid some off and on rain showers, ten major leaguers entertained fans last night in the Home Run Derby at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
One of those competitors was O’s outfielder, Adam Jones. Jones made a nice showing for himself (better than the goose egg Yasiel Puig put up) hitting four home runs in the first round, moving onto the second round where he was beat by eventual champ Yoenis Cespedes, 9-3.
Cespedes defeated Reds’ third baseman Todd Frazier of all competitors to win back-to-back Home Run Derby’s since Ken Griffey, Jr did it in 1998 and 1999.
Jones provided Cespedes with a WWE Championship belt for his efforts. Jones also had a funny moment during the contest when he was brushed back by a BP pitch. (Photo courtesy: ESPN Twitter)
The 85th Mid-Summer classic is tonight at 8 pm on FOX. And, for the first time, will be streamed live on MLB.TV. Fellow Oriole slugger, Nelson Cruz will DH and bat 6th, and Jones will play CF and bat 7th for the American League.
