Even with a salary cap, football somehow seemed to give the biggest pay day of the last 12 months.

According to Mike McCartney, who cites Forbes, Ravens defensive lineman Haloti Ngata earned $37.1 million in salary and bonuses over the last year which is more than any other athlete playing a team sport.

Well done, Haloti.  Congratulations.

If you gave me Ngata and four other options and asked me to pick the highest paid over the last year, I would’ve picked anyone else.  I guess I had no idea just how much of a pay day he’s received.

Ngata’s numbers took a dip last season, but I don’t blame that on a fat check.  He seemed to be playing injured most of the year.

He’ll definitely be earning that paycheck this season though with Terrell Suggs on the shelf for most of the year.

  1. Now we know why Ozzie can’t sign Joe and Ray R.,,,,,,,,,,,he miss-handled the salary cap once again,,,,,,,,

How about putting some money in a few quality O-linemen for a change,,,,,,matt birk ,are you kidding me,,,,poor Joe again,,,,,,,,,,,ozzie’s o-line will keep the Ravens out of yet another super bowl …………

  2. If you look at the Ravens’ history with Holmes, then Lewis, then McGahee, now Rice, I can’t see the guy getting a big deal. I think at best they franchise him 2 more years than let him walk.

    • You are correct except the tag will only be for one more year…………..

      • spy, yea, actually that is what I meant, this year and next being the 2 years. He hasn’t signed this one yet.

I love the fans who want to throw all the big money at football players without knowing the business end of this. I still believe that the Webb deal is a bad one that will hurt the team down the road. And Ngata is the highest paid athlete?!? He’s pretty darned good, but the highest paid athlete?!?

        • You bet,,,,,I think ozzie has the bad habit of giving a few players a huge bulk of the money not leaving enough to acquire quality peripheral players,,,,,if he shared the wealth a bit more the Ravens would be a more well rounded team,,,,,,just my thoughts…………
