Despite Chris Tillman’s best (worst?) efforts, the Orioles managed to win their third straight game and secured a series win in the Bronx against the Yankees.
Tillman surrendered five runs to the Bombers in the bottom of the first, but the O’s rallied with seven of their own in the second and never looked back. Baltimore would eventually score 11 unanswered runs and Tillman even got the win.
After the game, Yankees starter Ivan Nova was asked about blowing a 5-run lead and he told the New York media that it was just “bad luck.”
“It was a tough day for me. I threw a lot of good sliders, I threw some good curveballs, I broke two bats and they got base hits. It’s not a good day,” Nova said according to Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com
He might call it ‘bad luck’, but I call it ‘Orioles Magic’.
Nova’s skipper Joe Girardi doesn’t call it either of those options. “Well, he had no fastball command, an inconsistent slider and an inconsistent curveball,” Girardi said.

BEST game of the year last night. Those cocky Yankee fans, who think every fly ball is a homerun, even the ones the SS catches, were convinced that game was in the bag…as was I. Chris Davis is quickly becoming an AL East firstbaseman, er, left fielder, er relief pitcher. Regardless, he can hang with some of the big boys in the east. Great game!
After Cano homered, I turned the tv off and went outside to mow my lawn. When i came back, I turned on the game and did a double-take, it was 8 – 5 in the 3rd inning. I think i peed myself with joy and had no problem watching from there on.
To see Tilly give up 5 runs while being sick and still pitch 5 innings was AWESOME. In New York, even more awesome. I hope this helps with confidence moving forward since they did practically nothing before the trade deadline. This team needs a boost and something like the first half – it was a ton of fun to watch the first 40 games of the season.
