The Ravens and Patriots seem to have become out-of-division rivals. The two teams are facing off once again in the AFC Championship after their regular season meet up in week three.
Pats’ linebacker Jerod Mayo dicussed the matchup and the rivalry that has grown between these two teams with Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com.
“We have a ton of respect for the Ravens. We feel like they’re in our division, it feels like we play them every year, once or twice,”Mayo said. “We know it’s going to be a physical game. They like to go in there and play football the way it’s supposed to be played — they want to run the ball, play-action shots, and do things like that. We love playing against these guys. We know it’s going to be a battle. It always seems like it comes down to the last couple of series in the game, which is exciting for you guys, but not so much for us.”
Mayo credited Baltimore’s “huge offensive line” for protecting Joe Flacco and allowing him to throw down field.
I’m guessing Mayo has been watching tape of the Ravens because it seems that offensive line started gelling just a couple weeks ago. It’s amazing what moving Michael Oher to the right side and bringing in Bryant McKinnie will accomplish.
