It was announced on Monday night that Mark Turgeon is the Big Ten Coach of the Year, as voted on by the media.
The media also voted freshman Melo Trimble first team all-B1G. They also gave senior Dez Wells a nod to the second team all-B1G, and junior Jake Layman a place in the third team all-B1G.
The coaches vote saw Wells on the first team, Trimble on the second, and Layman picking up a honorable mention. Trimble also saw himself named to the all-freshman team.
These regular season awards do show a lot, especially as it is Maryland’s first season in the Big Ten, and they are seen as a surprise team by many. The number eight team in the nation will look to further validate their achievements with deep runs into the B1G tournament and the Big Dance.
