The Orioles placed their ace Kevin Millwood on the disabled list today with a strained right forearm after his worst outing of the season. Millwood gave up five earned in just one inning pitched. The move allowed the Orioles to activate Felix Pie, who started tonight in left field.
The big question for the O’s now though, is who fills in for Kevin Millwood? Since being sent down to AAA Norfolk, Chris Tillman has been lights out. He pitched a no hitter earlier this season and now he’s coming off a one hit shut out. Unfortunately, the kid hasn’t had his stuff at the bigs pitching to a 8.40 ERA and three losses in just four starts.
Quite possibly the biggest disappointment is the fact that Millwood is only under contract with the Orioles through the rest of 2010. Had he pitched well this season he could have been used as trade bait for a contender before the deadline. Unfortunately, now the Orioles risk losing him to free agency for nothing in return.
